Thermopylae Regatta!

This year's M242 Fleet 2 Championships were held at Royal Victoria Yacht Club during the Thermopylae Regatta on October 5/6.

The winning Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Team was Michael Clements (Skipper), Adrienne Mennell (RVYC), Erica Crilly (RVYC) and the fourth member of the team was Luzzara Mazariegos on Too Wicked!

Mike and Team were also awarded the “Fleet 2 Championship ”trophy (the M242 half model), the first time it’s ever been won by a non-Fleet-2 boat, plus the Royal Vic M242 Award (the big silver trophy)!

Races were held under mostly sunny skies on Saturday with variable wind speeds from 2-12 knots for the 6 races. Sunday was sunny all day with very light air for all 3 races. Both days saw flat water and extremely variable current with multiple streams on the course.

Adrienne Mennell presented Mike with his Fleet Captain’s M242 flag, handmade by Annabelle Martin back in the day. The flags are one of a kind!

RVYC One Design Boat of the Year

Too Wicked was announced on Thursday night at the RVYC Awards Dinner as the "RVYC One Design Boat of the Year" (the Albert Austin Trophy).

This was a pleasant but welcome surprise for the team. It's the 6th time in 13 years that Too Wicked have won this distinctive award. Phil Cragg & team on Back in Black have won it 4 times in the past 7 years, so they've had a good run also.

2024 Fleet Captain's Dinner

The M242 Fleet One Fleet Captains dinner was held on October 18 at RVYC and it was a great success! During this awards ceremony we recognized exceptional sailing talent, skills improvement, best helmswoman, and volunteer contributions, among others, and shared anecdotes from some of the season's highlights. The M242 Fleet One Fleet Captains dinner was held on October 18 at RVYC and it was a great success! Trophies were issued to the winners including beautiful M242 duffle bags hand-made by Matt Alexander from a M242 jib!
